Uwe Sommerlade, born in 1961, the grandson of a carpenter and the son of a civil engineer, developed an early interest for shapes and materials in architecture and design. After having completed his carpentry training and his product design studies at the Kassel University, Uwe Sommerlade was the co-founder of the design studio Lepper Schmidt Sommerlade in Kassel in 1991.
Following the death of his partner Christian Lepper, he established his own studio in 2011, and has designed many successful, award-winning products ever since – among other things for Kusch+Co. His motto is: “Design goes beyond the scope of merely shaping the exterior appearance of a product. It has an obligation towards its function and its users. Not only is a high quality level a sine qua non, the constructive steps during the development process are also of great importance.”
